What to Ask Your Veterinarian Prior to Your Pet's Surgery
There are at least eight questions you should have in mind to ask your veterinarian before your pet goes in for a surgical procedure.
1) Will you perform a pre-surgical exam? your vet should do a thorough exam
2) Will you do a complete blood study? Blood work should be done to detect any problem.
3) Will you prescribe pain medication before surgery and after?
4) Do you include iv and fluid administration during surgery?

5) Is the anesthetic monitored during surgery?
6) Do you give heat support while under anesthesia?
7) What type of anesthesia will you use? (injectable or gas). (there is anesthesia for more sensitive pets, ask for it, if your pet is sensitive).
8) Does the cost include follow up care? It usually does to remove stitches, but what if there is a complication. It should be asked about up front.
